: a family of fungi (order Chytridiales) characterized by uniflagellate zoospores and a rhizomycelial plant body with frequent enlargements into spindle bodies, several species especially in the type genus Cladochytrium being parasitic in algae, aquatic seed plants, and some plants of economic importance (as alfalfa, corn, beets)
